FIRE – A Poem

FIRE – 2/2025

A Small red dragon,

Beautiful, loud, soft, kind.

Fire she breathes, and she smiles.

People say, It is not burning,

It’s warm.

Soft hands pick up the dragon.

He smiles. Curious.

She lets him.

The hands are warm.

Fingers pet her scales.

He holds her.

Man learns about Dragon.

Still

Curious. . . .

Dragon shows him her fire.

He says he likes. Laughs.

Time passes.

“Don’t play with fire.”

Says Man’s master.

Man holds the Dragon,

Hands over her wings.

He holds her close,

Showing his friends

His dragon.

“She’s mine.” he says.

The Dragon feels loved,

The hands start to hurt

Her wings.

“Be grateful they are warm”, She thinks.

“Dragon’s shouldn’t breathe fire.”

Says man.

“Okay,” Dragon smiles. But he still is holding me… She reminds herself.

Dragon asks, curious, seeking man back.

Kind words, understanding?

“Man,” she snaps, “Hello?”

“No fire.” Man replies.

Man still holds her,

His hands clamped around her wings.

“I don’t like other dragons. Just you.”

Man says.

“But I do…” Dragon questions.

“No.”

“Okay.”

Man squeezes Dragon, he thinks he is being soft.

Man gets angry, not with Dragon…

Dragon bites Man, his hands bleed.

FREE.

LAUGH. JOY. FLY.

Dragon soars again.

Dragon looks down at man,

From above

In the sky.

Man asks, why?

“Wasn’t I warm? Gentle?”

Why bite?

It hurts.

Dragon feels bad.

Regret? No.

Sad for breaking free? No.

S

he misses his hold.

But not the pressure.

Her wings spread,

She watches, and flies around.

Man wants his dragon back.

People question. He hopes

She will fly back.

“Is this real?” he asks.

“Is she really gone?”

Dragon swoops down to

A tree. Placing a seed

In Man’s hand.

“Grow man… Find your wings.”

“But come back! I don’t

Need a seed…” Man says.

“Next time,” Dragon roars.

Breaths fire,

“Don’t hold my wings

Back.

Your hands are now cold

Without me to

Hold.

“Lift them towards

The sun.

Warm them.

Maybe I will someday come and land.

But lift me towards the sun with you.

Don’t cover my

Wings.

I

Breath

FIRE.
