There have been a lot of questions on the internet of “What should I do/bring when I visit Pompeii?” Here are five things we wish we knew when visiting the great City
1) There is Food
Almost everywhere will say that there is no food in Pompeii, but this isn’t true. There is one cafe with overpriced water, but there is still food. There are also restrooms inn the city if you know where to look. Though I would highly recommend bringing your own food, just for cost savings and enjoyment.
2) There is Food OUTSIDE
We thought that Pompeii was in the middle of nowhere, but outside of the gates, there were many vendor shops. Probably 4 gelato shops and many restaurants. No worries if you don’t bring food, you can just get some after. I would say though: it is a bit pricy. Tourist prices if you know what I mean. But the good thing is that we could get sustenances despite our worries.
3) Bring IDs
Everyone needs to have IDs when going in and getting tickets, especially children (18 and younger). Just as proof of their age.
4) Use a Guide!!
I could not say this enough. Our experience was 1000 times better with a guide than if we had gone alone. We used Askos Tours, and it was the best decision we made while in Pompeii. You learn an incredibly large amount of fun facts and it’s cool to see all the fun sights without having to read all the signs!
5) No Large Bags
We only had one big-ish backpack for extra food and water that my dad was carrying and each kid had a smaller sling bag or small backpack to carry their own water bottles and snacks. Bags larger than 30x30x15 are NOT allowed inside Pompeii.
I hope these facts help you out on your adventure to the amazing city! See you in the next post.
