After all of our traveling, it’s good to be back in Raleigh. After spending a weekend with some friends deer hunting, we are back in the lull of school. I study math, biology, science, writing, blogging, and violin.
Math: What I’m Learning, and Which Corses I’m Taking:
This year, I am taking an online course in Geometry. The platform that I am using is called Mr. D Math. I have used the method before, and it was ok for Algebra. I like it, though, for geometry. The other course I’m taking is a textbook called The Life of Fred. Me and my siblings are all using this course. But I’m reviewing Algebra, and Zeb is doing trigonometry and algebra 2. The little’s (Kb and Bardez) are doing pre-algebra with LOF (Life of Fred). The best thing about LOF is that it’s straightforward and super funny. Fred is only five years old and teaches advanced math to college students!
Biology and Science
Biology
For most of the school years, we usually don’t do a literal science curriculum. Because we travel much, and dad loves rocks, he teaches us all he knows about geology. But this year, I have gotten into biology, and I am using a textbook. It is called Everything You Need To Ace Biology In One Big Fat Notebook. They also have many other books on different subjects. I recommend them all.
Science
This year, we are all doing a science book together. It’s entertaining. Me and Zeb just started it last night with mom, but the little’s have been doing it for the previous two weeks. We are learning about amphibians and other things. I like it so far :). The curriculum that we are using is called The Good and Beautiful.
Writing
This year, we are doing two different things for writing. 1) Writing and Rhetoric. I did this curriculum before in 2020. It was in an online class on Zoom with Zeb. I’m now doing the 6th book. 2) A creative writing textbook. It only takes about 5 minutes every day, and I like it very much. It’s the same curriculum as science: The Good and the Beautiful: Creative Writing Notebook #1.
Blogging
Another form of writing that we are doing this year is blogging. You can already see that that is in full swing! We will be hopefully posting weekly updates, if not more often or less often. But that is the plan.
Violin
I have been playing the violin since I was three years old. And mostly with the same teacher, Mrs. Mary. She is the best. I have decided to focus on violin this year, other than just doing it. I also play some cello, but my main instrument is the violin. I am using the Suzuki Method and am in the 5th Suzuki Book.
